This page sets out the standards every article on Design and Dwelling is held to: how we choose what to cover, how we evaluate products, how we handle money, and what we do when we get something wrong.

Who is responsible for what publishes

Every article is reviewed and approved before it goes live by the person credited on it, who is accountable for its accuracy.

Articles here are published under the pen name Quinn Parker. We say that plainly on our About page, along with the reason: the writer works full-time in residential design, and her employment makes publishing under her own name a conflict.

A pen name is not a fictional author. There is one real person behind it, with real renovation and client experience, and every project, opinion and recommendation attributed to Quinn was genuinely hers. Editorial accountability sits with the publisher, who is named on the About page. What we will never do is invent experience, invent a person, or claim a project we didn’t do.

How we choose what to write about

We cover questions real people are actually asking about their homes — how to hang a gallery wall, what size rug a living room needs, whether a particular finish is worth the money. We prioritise topics where we can add something specific: a real price, a real measurement, a project we’ve actually done. We don’t publish an article just because a keyword has search volume.

How we evaluate products

  • We state what kind of assessment it is. If we’ve used a product ourselves, we say so and describe the conditions. If a recommendation is based on research rather than hands-on testing, we say that too, and we tell you what the research consisted of.
  • We compare like with like. Product recommendations name specific models, materials, dimensions and current price ranges — not vague categories.
  • We include the drawbacks. Every product has them. A recommendation that lists only upsides isn’t a recommendation, it’s an advertisement.
  • We recommend against things. If something isn’t worth the money, we say so.
  • No brand pays for a placement. A company cannot buy its way into a recommendation, a ranking position, or a positive assessment on this site.

Affiliate links and sponsored content

Some links on this site are affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission if you buy something through them, at no additional cost to you. This never affects which products we recommend or what we say about them. Full details are on our Affiliate Disclosure page.

If an article is sponsored or contains gifted products, we label it clearly at the top of the post, before the content — not in small print at the bottom. We decline sponsorships for products we wouldn’t recommend on their merits.

Fact-checking

Before an article publishes, we verify prices against current retailer listings, measurements and specifications against manufacturer documentation, and any safety or building-code guidance against an authoritative source. Where a claim comes from someone else’s work, we link to it.

Updates and corrections

  • We revisit articles. Prices change, products get discontinued and trends move. We review our most-read articles at least annually and update them, and we show the last-updated date on the post.
  • We correct errors promptly. If we get something factually wrong, we fix it as soon as we know. For anything more than a typo, we add a short note to the article explaining what changed and when.
  • We don’t quietly delete mistakes. Correcting is better than pretending.

Use of AI

We use AI tools for research and drafting, with human editing and fact-checking on every article. We explain exactly how on our How We Create Our Content page.
